JPJ lists spots for 831 AES cameras

PETALING JAYA: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has released a list of locations for the 831 Automated Enforcement System (AES) cameras nationwide.

Based on this, Selangor, Johor and Perak will have the highest number of speed traps and traffic light cameras.

“The locations will be updated from time to time and will be according to the areas identified as black spots,” read the notice on the department's website (pic).

A total of 112 cameras will be installed in Selangor 38 for traffic lights and 74 for speed traps.

Among the locations are KM7.8 along Persiaran Raja Muda Musa, Port Klang, Jalan Sg Tua-Ulu Yam and KM17.2 of the Jalan Klang-Banting-Port Dickson route.

Johor will have 100 cameras with 32 for traffic lights and 68 for speed traps.

Among the locations are KM10 of the Jalan Jemaluang-Mersing stretch, KM11.9 of Jalan Johor Baru-Air Hitam and KM21 of the Jalan Muar-Pagoh road.

Meanwhile, Perak will have 90 cameras with 26 for traffic lights and 64 for speed traps.

Among the locations are Jalan Keramat Pulai, KM31.5 of the Jalan Ipoh-Kuala Lumpur stretch and Jalan Tunku Abd Rahman.

According to the website, the cameras will be installed in stages.

“Under the first phase, AES cameras have been installed at 14 blackspots where fatal accidents frequently take place,” it said.

“These locations are in Perak, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.”

On Oct 8, JPJ deputy director-general Datuk Ismail Ahmad had said that the 831 spots under the AES could be moved from time to time.

He had also said the cameras should not be in a fixed area as there could be new developments or road additions in the future.

The cameras, he added, would be installed within 18 months.
